2003 Events Calendar
In June 27-29 2003, expert in security issues of Armenian Atlantic Association, David Hambaryan, participated in the international conference in Bucharest under the title of "NATO and Southeastern Europe after the Prague Summit," organized by the NATO Studies Center of Romania. He was the only participant from Caucasus being granted a unique opportunity to meet with the president of Romania.
From July 7 to 13 2003, expert in security issues of Armenian Atlantic Association, David Hambaryan, took part in the 18th Danish Atlantic Youth Seminar (DAYS) organized by Danish Atlantic Association in Aalborg city, Denmark. It was the first time that an Armenian expert participated in such an important, famous and traditional seminar in Europe as DAYS.
On July 24-27, 2003, Mr. Nikolay Hovhannisyan, the Chairman of Armenian Atlantic Association, has participated in the ATA Conference on Education for Security and Defense ATACESD in Bucharest, Romania. At the conference, Professor Hovhannisyan was appointed in the drafting committee of ATA Conference on Education for Security and Defense ATACESD targeted to the necessity of education of security and defense and to considering the practical ways and means of implementing it.
On October 3-4, 2003 the seminar-workshop entitled "NATO's New Role" was organized by the initiative of Armenian Atlantic Association (AAA) and the support of NATO Office of Information and Press. NATO representatives and 30 journalists of Armenian mass media organizations, i.e. 10 journalists from regions and 20 - from the capital participated in the seminar-workshop. The major purpose of the seminar was to arrange interactive sessions on the topic of NATO-s new role in the world; Armenia and NATO; Caucasus and NATO: perspective of cooperation.
Seminar on Regional Security and Role of Youth in Peace Building was organized in Yerevan, 10-14 of November 2003, by the initiative of Armenian Atlantic Association (AAA), OSI Assistance Foundation (OSIAF) financial support and the assistance of NATO Office of Information and Press. The seminar was designed for young representatives of national YATAs comprising the youth from the following countries: Moldova, Russia, Georgia, Turkey, Greece, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.

The seminar was a broad meeting of representatives of YATA chapters and youth research type organizations; NATO Policy Planning and Speechwriting Section of the Political Affairs Division; Diplomatic Missions in Armenia and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of RA. The seminar was devoted to the strategies and methodology of conducting in-depth research on public policy/security relevant issues as well as networking.

The participants had active discussions and debates on the hereby topics:

  • NATO's contribution to international security;

  • Towards closer regional integration - economic, trade and other incentives;

  • Role of Youth in Regional Peace Building Activity;

  • Partnership with NATO - what role does it play in political debate and public opinion?

  • Will partnership with NATO help Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan to become closer to each other?

  • An expert in security issues of AAA participated at the international youth conference "Youth Meeting of Vilnius 10-Visegrad Group: the New Euro Atlantic Community" which took place on November 19-23, 2003 in Vilnius, Lithuania. He represented the topic "Between East and West. Where to go? Glance from Armenia."
